Nkem Owoh, born February 7, 1958, is a legendary Nigerian actor and comedian. He won the 2008 African Movie Academy Award for “Best Actor in a Leading Role” for his role in the Nigerian film Stronger Than Pain. He was born and raised in Enugu State, in the Southeast part of Nigeria.

Early Life and Education

Nkem Owoh was born in Enugu State, South East Nigeria where he had his elementary and secondary school education.

He attended the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta after finishing primary and secondary school to study engineering.

Nkem Owoh already started appearing in several television and film productions while he was still a student at the university.

Career

Nkem Owoh’s performance of the song “I Go Chop Your Dollar,” which is about advance fee fraud, played huge role in shooting him to stardom.

However, the song was banned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC)

He has played lead role in several Nollywood films including Osuofia in London which he delivered a top-notch performance.

Owoh was abducted in eastern Nigeria in November 2009. The kidnappers demanded for a ransom of 15 million naira. He was freed after his family allegedly paid a 1.4 million naira ransom
