University of Michigan-Dearborn first-year admission is determined by several factors, including:
- Applicants with cumulative high school grade point averages of 3.5 or more are generally accepted.
- Candidates with cumulative GPAs between 2.5 and 3.5 will be considered according to their level of academic preparation:
- The quantity and variety of college readiness courses
- An upward trend in grades
- Submitting their SAT or ACT scores is optional for the incoming class of 2024.
- After reviewing an application, recommendation letters or essays can be needed.
- There can be additional requirements for non-native speakers.
All applicants must either show a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or graduate from a home school or an authorized and accredited secondary school.
For potential degree entrance, students must have a GED score of at least 600 (Battery Average Score). First-year students enroll in college courses while still in high school, often known as dual enrollment.

ACT and SAT scores will not be required for UM-Dearborn applicants for the undergraduate application years 2022 and 2023.
If you wish your test results to be considered when making an admissions decision, you can specify this on the admissions application.

Students may apply directly to the Marsal School’s first-year admissions major in Learning, Equity, and Problem Solving for the Public Good (LEAPS). The institution exclusively admits first-year students into the LEAPS major; however, first-year students who wish to apply for Preferred Admission can do so if they are interested in upper-level programs.
